This Ramadan, ALQST is launching an appeal to support our crucial work defending human rights in Saudi Arabia. This comes at a critical time, amid a recent spate of releases of prisoners of conscience following sustained campaigning efforts.
Despite such major victories, the fight is far from over. Saudi Arabia’s authorities are among the world’s worst violators of human rights, brutally suppressing free speech and carrying out executions in record numbers.
Further pressure is needed more than ever. To ensure that those released are granted their full freedom, not least the right to travel and be reunited with their loved ones. To secure the freedom of countless others who remain arbitrarily imprisoned for exercising their basic rights. And to demand lasting reforms that address Saudi Arabia’s human rights record across the board.
‘Al-qist’ means ‘justice’ in Arabic. In an environment of repression where Saudi civil society is under constant surveillance, ALQST, an award-winning, independent NGO, is one of few actors still able to source and verify first-hand information on human rights abuses on the ground. There is now a pressing need to continue and expand our work. With your support, we can:
- Monitor more human rights abuses in real time, maintaining close contact with victims and their families and ensuring their stories are documented
- Campaign for these victims, in conjunction with partner NGOs; organise and attend advocacy events; and maintain an active presence in the media, ensuring our documentation reaches audiences far and wide
- Engage frequently with parliamentarians, diplomats and businesses, and encourage them to use their leverage to help curb rights violations
- Provide legal and practical support to victims and their families, including raising cases with the United Nations and other international bodies, holding violators to account
Your support ensures that we can continue to shine a light on repression in Saudi Arabia and fight for justice, freedom and dignity for all.
ALQST is a nonprofit organisation, so any donation, however big or small, goes a long way.
If you’re unable to donate at this time, you can still support our mission by sharing this appeal with your network, signing up to our newsletter, or following us on social media.
Thank you for whatever support you can give.
