On the 8th of April 2014, human rights defender Abdulaziz Al-Ghamdi was arrested by members of the General Intelligence Directorate of Saudi Arabia (GID), following a violent raid at his residence.
During the violent raid, Al-Ghamdi’s 10 year old nephew was assaulted and GID refused to produce search warrants. They charged into his private residence and confiscated money, books and computers. As a result Al-Ghamdi was arrested and remanded in custody.
Al-Ghamdi is a human rights defender and has supported the NGO ACPRA. He has assisted the families of detained members of the organisation. It is clear that Al-Ghamdi’s arrest and detainment is directly linked to his human rights activities. ALQST is unable to obtain any further information and Al-Ghamdi still remains in custody without trial.
We at ALQST, urge the Saudi Arabia authorities to have respect for fundamental human rights and to stop violating the human rights of Abdulaziz Al-Ghamdi. We at ALQST need your support to apply pressure on the authorities to free Abdulaziz Al-Ghamdi.
